Synopsis

Also: Summary, Content

A man from the country will have access to the law. To get this access, however, he must first pass through a door that is guarded by a doorkeeper. The door is therefore access, so to speak, the key to knowledge about the law dar.
However, the gatekeeper refused the man from the country to enter. Simultaneously, it provides but also that the man could possibly happen again. This one could not yet say with certainty. Of course this could also simply try without permission to go through the door. He was the gatekeeper, but "powerful". Is more, would follow him to direct several other doorkeeper, all are more powerful than he, and where the man had first come also to go into law. The sight of the third doorkeeper is to bear any more. He stood in the hierarchy only at the bottom.

The man is disappointed by this unfair treatment, but will not give up yet. The doorkeeper gives the man a stool and lets him sideways from the gate to sit down. The man begins to wait. Days, months, years. He repeatedly begged for admittance and tried to bribe the doorkeeper. The gifts take on the mighty man indeed, he was doing this but just to let the man from the country does not believe to have "missed something". Some times is the gatekeeper questions, but these are always superficial.

But the man from the country waits further. He forgets that his trip would be even after this doorkeeper far from over. More doors, would follow with more powerful guardians. Still, he sees only this one. This one man who stands in his way. He is so much focus on him that he can recognize even the fleas in his fur. Desperate, he asks himself these help.

The man continued to wait. His behavior is influenced more and more of despair. It is only childish, then quiet, while getting older. His eyes slowly fail and the service he gets it difficult to see the light. A strange darkness surrounds him. appears only behind the door the light to shine brightly. His bones are tired and it seems as if the door-keeper with time become increasingly larger and larger. His hearing is bad. You have to yell at him now, so he still hears something.

Shortly before his death, he wants one last question: "Everyone strives after the law (...) why is it then that in the many years no one except me has requested entry?" The doorkeeper is only in response ". Here no one else could gain entry, since this entrance was intended only for you" Then he goes and closes the door.

Partly also: interpretation, analysis, discussion

An interpretation of the parable is similarly problematic as an interpretation of "The Trial". It can be found a myriad of possible interpretations, as in the biographical or in the psychological field.
Nevertheless, you can take a quick look at the parallels between "The Trial" and take "Before the Law". Said Josef K., clearly meets the man from the country. Both want to gain access to the law and neither is it successful. The way in which the man tried using the fleas to persuade the doorman remembered also to Josef K's behavior: Joseph speaks with several different people who want to have any, cursorily described contacts with the court and the promise to use them to Joseph's favor . He does so only people on his side who have hardly anything to do with the system, he never penetrates to the core of the court. More than that: People often want something tangible in return from him, as money , or contact. They are beneficiaries of the court and live by it, without anybody to actually use.

interesting is the fixation of both of the law or on the court. Both fail at precisely this fixation. No one could have prevented the man from the country in mind to move away from the door and lead a normal life. Going by the quote from the prison chaplain, then obviously also for Josef K. The same Also, he had simply can not go to court, but decided to the contrary and thus sealed his own death.
